Do you want to contribute to public life in Gwynedd?

Date: 28/02/2025

There is a unique opportunity for individuals interested in standards in public life, governance, and auditing to contribute to the operation of Cyngor Gwynedd.

The Council is inviting applications to become Lay Members on its Standards Committee and its Governance and Audit Committee. Successful applicants will contribute to the effective administration and oversight of the Council's operations.

The Standards Committee plays a crucial role in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct among the Council's elected members and provides guidance on the Council's Code of Conduct.

The Governance and Audit Committee is a key element of Cyngor Gwynedd’s governance framework. It provides independent assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Council's risk management, internal control environment, performance assessment, complaint handling, and financial reporting processes.

To be eligible for the role of Lay Member, applicants must:

  • Not be a member or officer of any local authority.
  • Not have been a member or officer of any local authority in the past twelve months.
  • Not be married to or in a civil partnership with a member or officer of any local authority.

Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd, said: "These are unique opportunities to make a difference, to influence governance and to contribute towards maintaining standards within local government.

"We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals who are interested in public services. These are great opportunities either as an introduction to public life or to share valuable experience and expertise.

"If you are an objective person, able to think independently with good communication skills, please consider these opportunities."
