Gwynedd & Eryri Visitor Economy Conference: Developing a Sustainable Visitor Economy in the Area

The Gwynedd & Eryri Visitor Economy Conference will take place on 14 February 2025 at Neuadd Reichel, Bangor University. The conference aims to bring together industry experts, local businesses, community leaders, and policy makers to explore innovative approaches to develop a thriving sustainable visitor economy across the region.

As part of the long-term Gwynedd and Eryri 2035 strategy, the conference will highlight the region’s unique natural and cultural heritage—including its renowned landscapes, biodiversity and vibrant local communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic panel discussions, in-depth presentations, and interactive networking sessions that focus on sharing best practices for responsible tourism.

The event will feature presentations from leading industry experts, including Prof. Terry Stevens, renowned for his work on sustainable tourism, as well as representatives from Adventure Smart, Eco-Amgueddfa Llŷn, and Plas Coch Llanberis. Additionally, panel discussions chaired by Bethan Price will provide insights from professionals at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, Bangor University, and Cymunedoli.

Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute ideas to action by sharing key messages and priorities during interactive sessions. Exhibitors, including Piws, Adventure Smart, Llechi Cymru, and Business Support Gwynedd, will also be present, providing resources and networking opportunities.

Cllr. R.Medwyn Hughes, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Economy and Community welcomed this first annual event:

“In working together to develop the Gwynedd and Eryri 2035 Plan we developed a new partnership structure to ensure collaboration and to implement our vision and principles across the area.

"We want to celebrate the good practice that is happening with regards to sustainable tourism here today, and we also want to share examples of how other areas of the world are trying to ensure a more balanced approach to the visitor economy.

"This event is part of our new partnership arrangements and demonstrates our ambition to work differently for the benefit of the people, environment, language and culture of Gwynedd and Eryri.”

Jonathan Cawley, the Eryri National Park Authority’s Chief Executive Officer said:
