What’s the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol?

The Protocol is implemented in response to severe weather forecasts, such as very cold weather, heavy rain or snow, strong winds or other dangerous conditions that pose significant health risks to those sleeping outside.

Under this Protocol, anyone presenting as homeless will be offered a place to stay until the period of extreme weather is over.

What happens when the Protocol is activated?

Along with the usual steps when someone reports as homeless to the council, the following happens:

  • Cyngor Gwynedd will share the message on our social media channels (Facebook, X and Blue Sky)
  • Officers will work with our partners to share the news that the protocol is in place to ensure that everyone who needs it receives support and accommodation.
